I agree with your view of Twitter and GA creating a partnership to enable users to obtain traffic data for their twitter pages and make 'Twitter Marketing' more transparent. However, as useful as Twitter has been for marketing, for them to charge for stats would be awful. The only reason they work is because of the millions of people who love tweeting. To start using those people as a reason to monetise their service would be highly inappropriate.

Just found your blog today. Really like it - keep up the good work.Domain info more important than you think :-)Domain information such as DNS, age of domain and even the expiration date are used to distinguish between illegitimate and legitimate domains. Why are google doing this? Simply to get all the factors they can to get an internal "trust score".This "trust score" is used to eliminate "doorway" pages and spam in the search result.I'M not saying that it's working perfectly - but they are doing a pretty good job.

Right now, all I have is the RSS footer, and I usually link to a lot of my other articles throughout my posts if possible. I hope that will prevent the auto-scrapers from stealing my content without any credit to its source.

I do my best to comment a lot, especially on DoFollow sites, as well as having the Platinum SEO Pack plugin for Wordpress to optimize my posts with meta data. The result is some of my popular posts have their own PR separate from the main site, and my main site's PR is at 4 in less than a year, which I am pretty proud of.

@Mike - No I have not. The URL is simply trying to sell software. The idea of spending money on such software and on a site that, in my opinion, looks similar to other such "buy this software - from this unprofessional looking site", is a waste of money.

In my opinion such sites that try to sell software, claiming instant SEO/PR increases or driving sudden hords of "valid" traffic to a site are reminiscent of snake oil salesmen.

Particularly the, how you can instantly go from being unknown in the community to gaining an instant unfair advantage and dominating all internet marketing consultants in your area, is simply an obvious ploy in my opinion.

SEO is not simple, instant or easy. It takes work - Period!
Don't waste your money.

Great advice, especially the one about meta tags. With the explosion of social media, I believe search engine traffic is becoming less important. Don't get me wrong, it still gets you the most traffic out there, but because it takes so long to buil up and it relies on algorythims most of us don't understand, social media is becoming more important than ever. I'm glad to hear your point about domain names, as I have a website about the real estate industry, and more specifically about appraisals, and my domain name is iappraise for you. There is so much misinformation and old information out there about SEO, and it's nice to hear from somebody that knows how it works today.

Wow, lightening striking twice. Thank you for sharing your story with us, It goes to show it can happen no matter what protections you put into place. Backing your data up should be automatic, but many people just don't think about it until, as you say, disaster strikes. Giving your readers an example of how disruptive this is may save them from going through the same thing. Thanks for sharing your story.

@Scot Mahler - In the beginning I was not aware of all the resources that helped. I was frustrated and had a steep learning curve to figure out how deter an "fix" my stolen content. In many respects that blog was a true learning environment - immersion - Yikes!

Also, check out @plagiarismtoday on twitter. His site is dedicated to copyright related issues - tons of resources!

@Jonathan Bailey - Thanks for the feedback. I'll have to keep a close eye on those two then and see if I find any challenges. Thanks for mentioning Fairshare as I've never heard of them. I was not aware that Feedburner tracked uncommon uses, thanks for the heads-up on that.

I looked though your site by the way and was quite impressed with the resources and content. It really is chocked full of goodness, I was impressed! Thanks for a great resource. :)
